Deck the Halls

My very first posting ever is, for me, coming at one of the most depressing times of year - Christmas. I would love to love it, but my past Christmases have all sucked ass. This is attributable to two things: a wacky family and picking bad boyfriends. My last 6 Christmas Eve's in Seattle involved watching my fat boyfriend lay on the couch watching TV until he passed out with the remote in a death grip (a can of Bud resting on his ample midsection). I kid you not! Could it get any more disgustingly cliche? The next day would be Christmas. This is when he would drive South of Seattle to his families house in Tacoma sans moi for Christmas dinner. They are Mormon, or I may have forced myself to go. I am not anti-religion, but not being able to drink a glass of wine, or have a cup of coffee while suffering boring conversation about baked goods is not something I would have ever had a natural propensity for.

Five years later I left him and moved to Miami. You might think that this story has a happy ending, but it doesn't. After countless hours of his crying and promises that he would change, I returned to Seattle to live with him. His happiness on my return lasted about 72 hours. I spent the next year plotting another escape. He, however, beat me to the punch and (after losing a lot of weight and getting many substantial raises at work) found someone younger, richer and (I like to think) dumber than me. I returned to Miami, and then finally washed up here, in Moncton; the very place I left 20 years prior.

This is my blog about making it in Moncton, and hoping that 2010 is a hell of a lot better than 2009! Merry Christmas et Joyeux Noel ~
